★ What's new ★
Every change, by date.
What changed on the site, newest first, dated to the day it went live. Fixes nobody could see and changes we made and then took back are left out. If something here does not match what you find on the page, the contact page says how to tell us.
- The pages for the game pieces, from the token bag to the auction paddle, are shorter now. Each one says what the piece does and one way to use it, and stops. The long version was saying the same thing three ways.
- The box of small print that sat under every tool, saying the same four things on every tool page, is one line now, naming exactly what that page keeps in your browser. The rest lives on the FAQ, where it only has to be said once.
- Every tool page now says who made it and the date its own content last changed.
- The occasion pages were rewritten so that each one starts from its own situation, the quiet after a Christmas meal or the first hour on a beach, and the cards on the occasions page each say something only that set offers.
- The about page, the privacy policy, the cookie policy and the FAQ now say plainly that Google has not approved this site for advertising, rather than that an application is being reviewed. No advertisement is shown anywhere, as before.
- The contact page now says what to put in a message and what happens after you send it.
- The privacy policy now says which tools keep your list in the page address and which keep names in your browser instead. The wheel page now says that our host's visit counter runs on every page, the generators included, and no longer calls itself the one tool here that runs on the screen. The cookie policy now opens by saying that nothing we measure identifies you.
- Two comparison tables said our tools have no ads. None is shown, because Google has not approved the site, but Google's ad script does load on those tools, and the tables now say so.
- The classroom tools article now says that the shared player list and saved class lists stay in your browser between lessons. It no longer says there are no dice beyond six sides, or that a link carries a scoreboard to another device.
- This page is new.
- Several occasion pages now link, in the running text, to the article that explains how to run the game, at the point where the question comes up.
- The biggest update since the site opened: roughly ninety tools at once, grouped into families with a page for each. Pickers for settling turns and drawing names, party games with their prompts built in, buzzers and votes, trackers for lives, health, energy and progress, timed games, and tabletop pieces such as a dice tower, a dice pool and a hex board.
- The question jar arrived with 420 questions of its own, and the party games draw on a shared bank of family-safe prompts.
- The privacy policy, cookie policy and terms were rewritten to describe the site the tools had turned it into.
- The cookie banner got a space of its own, so it no longer covers the thing you came to use.
- The about page now says why the site exists.
- The large print bingo page now leads with the actual specification of the cards it makes.
- The site narrowed its focus to party and classroom games.
- Articles now carry a byline for the PaperCarnival team and the date each one was really published, rather than one date for all of them.
- A run of new articles: a guide to hosting a quiz night, a 200 word list for drawing games that matches the generator's own categories, the real odds behind a coin flip and a pair of dice, a reference for dice notation, and a comparison of the number scales teams use to estimate work.
- The countdown timer and the typing test gained ready-made lengths, each on its own page so you can bookmark the one you use.
- The legal pages were brought up to date, and the cookie choices became easier to reach.
- A typing test, which shows you the words before the clock starts and works in full screen.
- Six live tools: a coin flip, a dice roller with a visible tumble, a scoreboard that survives a refresh, a drawing game with its words, round timer and team scores on one screen, an estimation deck for planning sessions, and a whiteboard that never loses the drawing.
- A crossword maker with an interlocking grid, clues and an answer key.
- A daily word grid, and a geography game played on a globe you turn, which tells you how far off and in which direction each guess was.
- A polish pass across the site: the header reaches every tool from its menus, every page gets the same large header, the ready-made sets on each generator move into a block that shows all of them, and the live preview fills its panel.
- A countdown timer, a stopwatch, and a page that lists every tool in one place.
- Spin the wheel, the first tool here that does not print anything.
- Every printable generator got the same redesign: the live preview fits its box, holds the largest sheet without cutting it off, and opens on a finished example rather than an empty form.
- The advertising script was taken off the generator pages, which hold your lists and names.
- Google Analytics was removed from the site entirely, and there is no setting that could switch it back on.
- The bingo generator was the first to open on a finished preview instead of an empty one.
