Cookie Policy

Last updated 6 September 2026

We set no cookies of our own and measure nothing about you. This page explains the one exception, advertising, what our consent banner actually does, and how you stay in control.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. Some are essential for a site to work; others help measure how a site is used or support advertising. Browsers also have related storage, "local storage" and "IndexedDB", which work differently but are also kept on your device; we describe those here too, because what matters to you is what is on your machine, not what it is technically called.

Cookies we set

None. PaperCarnival sets no cookies at all and runs no Google Analytics, tag manager or pixel.

Cloudflare Web Analytics sets no cookie and writes nothing to your device; it counts page views only. It is how our host counts visits, in totals we cannot connect to a person or to what anyone does inside a tool.

Storage we do use on your device

  • pph.consent (local storage). It records the single word "granted" or "denied" so the banner does not ask again on every page.
  • pph.rosters and pph.charts (local storage), the rosters and seating charts you choose to save. These can contain names, because they are your lists.
  • Picture bingo photos (IndexedDB), the images you add to a card.
  • pph.score.board (local storage), the scoreboard's team names, points and positions.
  • pph.pict.teams, pph.pict.category,pph.pict.difficulty, pph.pict.round andpph.pict.muted (local storage), Pictionary's team names and round settings.
  • pph.board.strokes, pph.board.tool,pph.board.color and pph.board.size (local storage), the whiteboard's drawing and pen settings.
  • pph.poker.custom, pph.poker.deck,pph.poker.mode and pph.poker.rounds (local storage), scrum poker's deck and round settings.
  • pph.globe.level, pph.globe.round,pph.globe.stats and pph.globe.timed (local storage), guess-the-country's settings and scores.
  • pph.grid.game, pph.grid.stats andpph.grid.timed (local storage), word grid's puzzle progress and scores.
  • pph.typing.bests, pph.typing.difficulty andpph.typing.duration (local storage), the typing test's best scores and settings.
  • pph.timer.muted, pph.timer.chime andpph.timer.volume (local storage), your sound settings on the timer, so a room you need to keep quiet stays quiet next time. They hold a yes or no, the name of a sound, and a number.
  • pph.dice.count and pph.dice.muted (local storage), the dice roller's dice count and sound setting.
  • pph.coin.muted (local storage), the coin flip's sound setting.

None of this is a cookie, and none of it is sent to us or to anyone else. Every item above is removed by that tool's own reset or clear control where it has one, and always by clearing your browser's site data for papercarnival.com.

Advertising, and what our banner does

Some pages may carry advertising from Google to keep the tools free. Advertising partners may use cookies to show relevant ads and to limit how often you see the same one.

Here is exactly what happens, in order:

  • On any page that carries advertising, we set Google Consent Mode to denied for ad storage, ad user data and ad personalization before the advertising script loads. That is the signal telling Google not to use cookies or device storage for advertising.
  • Our application to Google AdSense is under review. While it is, the advertising script loads so Google can review the site, and Google receives the technical information any web request carries, such as your IP address, browser and the page being viewed, but no advertisement is shown. That happens whether you accept or decline; declining changes what Google may store on your device once ads do go live, not whether the review script loads today. This page changes in the same update that switches ads on.
  • If you accept, we update the same signals to "granted" and remember your choice. If you decline, they stay denied and we remember that too.
  • On the seven generator pages, bingo, 90 ball bingo, seating charts, charades, scavenger hunts, crosswords and word searches, no advertising script is loaded at all, whatever your choice. Those pages hold your names and lists; the only outside script that runs on them is our host's cookieless visit counter.

We describe the mechanism rather than promising an outcome inside someone else's software: we can tell you truthfully what signal we send and what we load, and we do not claim to guarantee the internal behaviour of a third party's script.

Managing your choices

When advertising is active, we ask for your choice with a banner on your first visit and remember it. You can change it at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer. When advertising is off, there is no banner, because there is nothing to consent to.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the tools will still work. To opt out of personalized advertising, visit Google's Ads Settings, the Digital Advertising Alliance or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
