What makes these different

The rest of PaperCarnival is there to help you run something: a printable to hand out, or a timer and a scoreboard for a game already in progress. These are the games themselves. One person, one screen, five minutes, and a puzzle that is the same for everyone playing that day, which is the whole appeal of arguing about it afterwards.

Nothing here needs setting up and nothing runs out. A daily puzzle is the reason to come back, and the practice puzzles behind it are there for the evening when one is not enough.

Your streak stays yours

Scores, streaks and the words you have already found are kept in your own browser and nowhere else. There is no account to make, nothing is uploaded, and no leaderboard is watching. The trade is that a streak belongs to one browser on one device, and clearing your browsing data clears it.

That also means nothing about how you played is for sale, and nobody can see whether you needed the hint. The puzzle is between you and the grid.
