Call “forty-two” and the class has to think backwards to the fact on their card that makes it. That is the harder way to play multiplication bingo, and the one that shows who really knows their tables; the easier way is to call the fact and let students solve it and mark the square. Either way, thirty kids are doing mental math at once and calling it a game.
Seven of the thirty six squares are square numbers, three threes up to nine nines, and twenty four turns up four times: three eights, eight threes, six fours and four sixes. A call of “twenty-four” is therefore a quick check that a class knows a fact and its turnaround give the same answer, and a round played for the squares alone is a short review of them.

Ways to play
Think backwards
The teacher calls an answer ("forty-two"); students find and mark a fact that makes it (6 × 7).
Solve and mark
Call "six times seven" and students say forty-two before they mark the square, so the answer is practised even though the card shows the fact.
Blackout
A full card, which on this list means a run through the harder sevens and eights.
Four corners
Corners only is four facts, enough to check a times table has stuck without running a full round.
Questions
Can I focus on one times table?
Yes. Enter only that table's facts in the generator, the sevens, say, and every card is drawn from those alone.
What grade is it for?
It suits roughly grades 3-5, and adapts to any level, simpler facts and a smaller grid for beginners, tougher ones for a challenge.
